Everybody Into the Castle!
Whoever coined the saying “a man’s home is his castle,” must have been talking about Henry Chapman Mercer – a man who literally built himself a castle in beautiful Bucks County. Constructed between 1908 and 1912, Mercer’s castle can now be enjoyed by visitors throughout the year. Fonthill Castle in Doylestown includes more than 44 rooms, 32 stairwells, 18 fireplaces, 21 chimneys and 200 windows and has been named a National Historic Landmark. An eclectic mix of Gothic, Medieval and Byzantine architecture, the castle’s interior walls, floors and ceilings are elaborately adorned with an array of original handcrafted tiles. Watch a video of the castle here – then take a ride out and tour it in person. While you’re in the area, stop by Owl’s Nest Farm, the exclusive new home community by Evans Homes. It might be the perfect place to build a castle of your own.
